Bendi boost for Megaman August 28th 2008 Megaman has improved its Welwyn Garden City warehouse efficiency by renting two refurbished articulating Bendi forklifts, and designing a new warehouse around them.
Previously the maker of energy saving lamps had two small warehouses, using two gas and one electric counterbalanced forklift – typically needing 3.6m wide racking aisles. The stores did not make best use of space and a second floor restricted forklift usage.
The new warehouse saves space using the Bendi. Bendi says the articulating mast allows operators to store 50% more pallets than some conventional counterbalanced trucks, because they can work in 1.6m aisles. The Bendi can also lift loads to 12.5m and can work outside on rough yards.
Megaman's Bendi trucks work in 1.96m wide aisles lifting loads to 10m across the 24 000ft2 store. Their lift capacity is 975kg up to 8.2m or 1 350kg to 6m.
They are used for picking, replenishment and moving stock around.
The trucks are equipped with side shift, flashing beacon and keypad to prevent unauthorised use of the two electric B40 Bendis.
Elaine Chellenbron, Megaman's general manager says safety is a major Bendi advantage.
There is no rear swing that could damage racking, and mast articulation gives a much better view of the load interfacing with racking beams.
