Up to 1000 picks per man-hour April 1st 2009 The OSR (Order Storage &
Retrieval) system from
KNAPP is a goods-to-man
automated storage and
picking solution designed for
small, slow-moving products.
Combining an ASRS with
pick-by-light technology, OSR
allows up to 1000 picks per
man-hour to be achieved.
With slower-moving
products typically accounting
for 80% of stock range, the
OSR has proven popular with
a number of well-known
companies including John
Lewis, AAH Pharmaceuticals,
CooperVision and British Gas.
The OSR system stores
goods in various sized plastic
containers that are handled
on trays within a lightweight
racking system. Each level of
each aisle of the OSR
features a shuttle car that
both retrieves and puts away
trays of bins. These shuttles
interface with an elevator at
the front of the aisle, which
provides vertical transport of
the trays to conveyor-fed
picking stations. Both pickfrom
and pick-to containers
are delivered automatically
by an integrated conveyor
system to the pick stations,
where pick-by-light and putto-
light technology ensures
accurate order picking.
Due to its modular
construction, the OSR can be
configured to suit the
individual building and
various product weights and
sizes. Storage can be up to
50m in length and 8m in
height, making optimum use
of available space. More articles from KNAPP UK Ltd: |
