Colossal conveyor comes to life August 1st 2009 The conveyor system
supplied by KNAPP UK to
retail giant John Lewis
Partnership at its flagship
730,000 ft2 automated
distribution centre at Magna
Park Milton Keynes is now
fully operational.
The 18 million
automated solution,
designed and installed by
KNAPP, features 8.4 km of
conveyors and 250,856 bin
storage stations, as well as
52 decant stations, 44
packing stations and 33
picking stations.
John Lewis Partnership
has invested some 45m in
the distribution centre as an
integral part of its plans to
open at least ten new stores
in the next decade. The
group has 26 department
stores, each typically
stocking more than 350,000
separate lines in any one
year and seeking to be an
all-under-one-roof
destination for an entire
region of shoppers. The new
DC will play a key part in
supporting John Lewis'
planned growth, maximising
stock availability in the stores
and supporting its thriving
direct-to-customer business.
The project is KNAPP's
largest ever single order and
its scope of supply included
automatic stacker cranes,
goods-to-man order picking
systems, pick-to-light
technology and conveyor
systems, plus warehouse
management software. More articles from KNAPP UK Ltd: |
