CSL makes a hit with Universal Music April 1st 2007 The consolidation of order picking operations at the Universal Music Group distribution centre at Kingston, Milton Keynes has been successfully completed by Conveyor Systems. The new £400,000 upgraded system involved the integration of over half a kilometre of conveyors. The Kingston distribution centre supplies CDs, videos, DVDs, cassettes and vinyl to 2500 live customers and has a weekly parcel despatch averaging 13,000 parcels, accounting for 80 million units of product per year. Working closely with Universal Music Operations project management, Conveyor Systems provided the most cost effective order picking and handling solution. This meant integrating existing conveyors and case sealers with new modules, relocating two telescopic boom conveyors and installing the complete system with integrated electrical controls and software. The system provides real time links with the customer's logistical mainframe computer systems to marshall warehouse operations in the most productive and efficient manner.
