Drum motor passes energy test October 1st 2004 In connection with the planning of Europe’s biggest meat processing plant, Danish Crown, together with BDL Drum Motors and Carnitech, completed tests to determine the efficiency of drum motor conveyor drives made by BDL compared to conventional geared motor drives from a German manufacturer.
Tests used 12m centre belt conveyors fitted with 180mm wide modular acetyl belts, each carrying a load of 50kg. Drum motors and comparable geared motors were installed, each with a power of 0.70kW and producing a belt speed of 0.25m/sec. Tests with and without load were made every 5min for 24h. Results showed drum motors used 32% less energy when loaded and 47% less energy when unloaded than geared motor drives.
In the meat processing plant, the lower heat output of the drum motors means the efficiency of the cooling system is increased, providing further energy savings. More articles from B D L Drum Motors UK Ltd: |
