Fresh ideas from CSL December 1st 2009 On the strength of previous handling
solutions provided by the company,
Fresh Direct has awarded Conveyor
Systems Ltd (CSL) the contract to
design and install a new conveying
and packing system to enable fresh
produce to be picked and delivered
from its chilled warehouse in Bicester.
From bulk deliveries, pallet loads of
fresh vegetables and fruit are
transported on a twin track gravity
roller conveyor into a packing area to
be decantered into orders and smaller
trays. These are conveyed on gravity
roller track stainless steel decked
packing tables, which feature a shared
centre shelf and film reel magazine.
Alongside is a four tier powered lineshaft
roller conveyor to feed and
present different heights of plastic
tray, which are selected according to
order content.
The second conveyor up from floor
level was designed to be inline with
the height of each packing table,
enabling operatives to easily slide the
full transit tray on to the powered
roller conveyor to be transported to
the palletising and dispatch area.
Produce is also picked on a
mezzanine floor and CSL designed
and installed a system to provide
accumulation and a controlled flow of
completed and packed orders through
to palletising and dispatch. For
continuous, smooth vertical transfer
of plastic trays in either direction,
CSL provided a cost effective solution
by installing a refurbished spiral
conveyor. More articles from Conveyor Systems Limited: |
