Greenstone’s orange overhaul February 1st 2005 SDI Greenstone has created a streamlined stock holding system for Dutch childrens wear company, Oilily, at its new DC in Enschede, Netherlands.
The hanging garment storage installation, with a capacity for more than 120,000 items, has been transported the entire width of Holland from its previous site – and has been reerected and upgraded in around half of the space.
SDI Greenstone completed the move and engineering in four weeks – without any major disruption to Oilily’s distribution business, which picks 20,000 orders daily for wordwide delivery.
Having decided to outsource its logistics, Oilily awarded the contract to TNT Fashion Logistics, which has recently acquired Hollandbased Bleckmann Logistics.
SDI submitted that the existing system could be transferred to the new site – and could be extended and reengineered to give extra capacity, speed of throughput and flexibility.
However, the old site had a capacity of 9,000m2 plus mezzanine, compared to 5,600m2 on a single level at the new facility. The project therefore required meticulous planning.
Although occupying around 50 per cent less space than the previous fragmented facility, the SDI Greenstone system at the new site in Enschede provides more capacity and enables faster and more streamlined throughput.
TNT says SDI deserves “enormous credit, not just for a smooth, quick transfer, but also for creating – out of existing components – a system which is much more practical and efficient, and with more capacity”. More articles from SDI Group UK Ltd: |
