Layer picking is a key element in total system February 1st 2004 To gain a competitive edge and achieve highly efficient logistics, Dutch 3PL provider, Schuitema, has recently opened a new state-of-the-art distribution centre in Eindhoven. A key element in the total system at the facility is fully automated layer picking from Univeyor.
Slow moving items are picked from cases using flow storage with a Univeyor Layerpicker, which picks complete layers from a pallet. As such a high number of items are picked by this method, it is imperative that the Layerpicker performs the way it was designed.
With the new system, damage has been greatly reduced and picking errors are said to be a thing of the past.
Since completion of the Schuitema project, Univeyor has developed a number of Layerpicker applications for other major European distribution centres. More articles from Univeyor A/S: |
