New belt offers hygiene and efficiency February 1st 2004 Leading modular belt manufacturer, uni-chains, has announced its new MPB Single Link Belt for the meat processing industry. The full width one-piece design is claimed to set a new standard in conveyor belt hygiene and operational efficiency.
The MPB Single Link Belt has been developed in response to continued demand for innovation and increased hygiene standards. A 24in meat cutting line of traditional modular belt construction would typically comprise multi-width modules with a number of directional joints, says Chris Farnworth, uni-chains UK sales and marketing director. Capillary action on these slots can draw in fluids and, if not cleaned correctly, can generate opportunities for bacterial growth. Increasing the slot sizes to facilitate cleaning only increases the chance of waste product ingress and associated bacteria problems.
To eliminate these problems uni-chains has removed the joint slots. By creating a 24in full-width link moulding, directional joints are eliminated across the whole belt width. This leads to a more even, stiffer and better working surface in addition to simpler hygiene maintenance, Farnworth continues. Compared to traditional modular belt construction, uni MPB Single Link Belt eliminates nearly 80% of the module corners vulnerable to impact damage, while improving the load distribution and consequent belt efficiency. And, with a tensile strength of up to 27,500N/m from belt weighing only 11.9kg per square metre, it will easily cope with the most demanding process-line requirements. |
