New drives help to reduce downtime
October 1st 2004

A conveyor belt drive from Interroll has boosted reliability for wrapping machine specialist, Marden Edwards.

The company used to rely on motors and gearboxes fitted with variators for manually adjusting speed control. These were bulky, unsightly and the variators posed maintenance problems.

When redesigning its machines, the company sought a more compact, modern look, based on cheaper, more reliable drives. An Interroll belt drive was considered the best solution.

Having a sleeker drive meant Marden Edwards could cut the production costs of its machines.

The new drives proved considerably more reliable than the old versions, reducing downtime for users. The 113S drive, rated at 0.18kW, uses an inverter to control its speed adjustment so it is virtually maintenance-free.

It is said to be more flexible than the old drives in that the drum can be placed anywhere along a conveyor infeed or outfeed. The enclosed design means there are no finger gaps to cause injury.
