Picking efficiency and accuracy improved
October 1st 2004

A custom-built conveyor system from European Conveyor Systems has improved order picking efficiency and accuracy for Waverley Vinters, supplier of wines and spirits to the licensed trade.

The company despatches an average of 12,000 cases per day, around 15% of which are mixed. The split cases are processed in an area served by the conveyor system.

Orders are picked into cartons carried on plastic trays barcoded with each order number. Scanners on the conveyor read this number and the trays are automatically sent to the zones where the appropriate products are held.

Cartons are then moved via a zero pressure accumulation conveyor and a re-circulation loop control to a packing bench.
