C&A picks a winner April 1st 2007 Sortation system specialist Dürkopp has designed and installed a new multi-faceted order picking, sortation and dispatch process into C&A's new Amsterdam distribution centre. The companies collaborated to minimise labour requirements, using automation to handle at least 200,000 items per day. Once goods arrive, almost every process is automated up to the moment trolleys and totes are ready for dispatch. 19kms of overhead trolley track conveys garments from goods in to dispatch. A single piece sorter equipped with 92 powered drop-off points can handle up to 7,000 garments per hour and two bundle sorters process up to 3,500 bundles per hour. The facility also uses Dürkopp's Tilt Tray Sorter, which can sort up to 6,000 items per hour and Split Tray Technology which suspends shallow trays from an overhead conveyor, freeing floor space.
