Faster food from Univeyor
February 1st 2005

Swedish Meats, one of Scandinavia’s largest food groups, has invested over £1.5m in a new Univeyor system for dealing with reusable transport items (RTIs).

The new system, claims Univeyor, gives Swedish Meats a much more efficient operation – with aster processing times and the advantage of a pc-based control system. Most of the packing s automatic: order crates (in three sizes) are depalletised and fed singly onto a conveyor for delivery to the height adjustable packing stations. The automatic packing operation is undertaken by robots and, once packed, the crates are conveyed automatically to be sorted, product by product, at a rate of 70 crates per minute.

Univeyor says it developed a ‘unique’ method of automatically folding the handles of the crates and moving them into depalletising stations where each pallet is stretchwrapped and moved on for despatch, at a rate of 60 pallets per hour.

Swedish Meats project manager, Torbjörn Sandstedt, says “Univeyor was chosen for its unique and innovative proposal.

Also, extremely competitive pricing means we shall achieve a very reasonable payback period on our investment.
