Grain on the train means more beer money June 1st 2009 Some of Britain's favourite
beers are now more
environmentally friendly
following the introduction of
a new rail freight service
transporting Muntons Malt
from Bridlington to InBev's
Wellpark Brewery in Glasgow.
Operated by The Potter
Group, the service replaces
13 bulk tipper road journeys
each week with 13 overnight
train movements, cutting
annual road travel by around
200,000 miles, which is
lowering CO2 emissions by
more than 80 per cent –
delivering a major reduction
in the company's carbon
footprint.
One of the key aspects to
the service is an innovative
rail container design
developed by The Potter
Group that replicates the
design of the road containers,
having the same dimensions,
an identical easy sheet
system to cover the container
and the same rear grain
discharge system. As a result
the transfer of malt from road
to rail is a simple and
straightforward process. More articles from The Potter Group: |
