Biodegradable airbags for void fill
October 1st 2008

Eco Friendly, biodegradable, Easypack Cassette airbags have been chosen by Sci-MX Nutrition for use as void fill when sending out sports nutrition products for distribution throughout the UK and Europe.

Sci-MX MD, Tim Hyman comments: "Normal airbag material is plastic based and takes many years to degrade in landfill which is bad for the environment. If we do not do everything we can to protect the environment there will be no sports fields in the future. We therefore view environmental issues as extremely important to the future of the business and this airbag material is 100% biodegradable, which is better for the environment.

We find the Cassette machine easy to use, cost effective and the film is much stronger, providing better protection, than standard bags." The Easypack Cassette system, available in either manual or semi automatic versions, quickly dispenses larger airbags and the packer is able to select the correct size and volume to fill the space in each individual transit outer. The machine is neat and compact so that every packing bench can have its own dispenser. The film is vegetable starch based and compostable to EN 13432, which requires less than 10% residue remaining after three months with no negative influence on the environment.
