Drum users up fibre intake December 1st 2008 As raw material costs for
plastic and steel drums rise,
according to FDL Packaging
Group's David Scotting,
packaging users should look
at whether single-trip fibre
drums could
provide a more
cost-effective
solution.
Often viewed
as more
environmentallyfriendly
than
steel or plastic,
more traditional
paper or fibrebased
packaging products
also offer a practical,
economical solution, asserts
Scotting.
Carrying and storing most
products as effectively as
steel or plastic thanks to
innovative linings and
coatings, paper or fibredrums
can also be used as
true one-trip, disposable
containers. Like other forms
of disposable packaging, they
can also be recycled through
a well-established and
mature paper industry.
If contamination arises
and paper-based or fibredrum
material ends up
having to be incinerated, it
gives off no noxious fumes
and can be used for energy
recovery. If landfill is the only
option, it quickly becomes
100% biodegradable.
"The fibre drum outperforms
other less durable
forms of paper packaging
and can be tailored to suit a
customer's particular
requirements. With internal
and external coatings,
finishes, printing, labelling
and custom design packs,
the fibre drum can definitely
meet growing demand for
environmentally-friendly
packaging," says Scotting. More articles from FDL Packaging Group: |
