Split tray for sorted automation
June 1st 2005

Dürkopp says its new split tray sortation system saves space and readily adapts to existing building constraints, giving affordable access to the benefits of automation.

The company has supplied a pharmaceutical sortation system to integrator Knapp, which uses a series of shallow trays suspended from an overhead conveyor, leaving the floor below free for storage or work space. The tray is designed to take boxes, garments and any suitable item – apt for retail store replenishment.

After entering data, items are manually placed into the next available tray. When the tray reaches its designated store position, the tray divides bomb-bay style, allowing the item to fall into the tote. Goods travel from picking to dispatch tote without pushing – avoiding crushing or damage. Once the designated tote box contains a completed shipment it is automatically carried by belt conveyor to the dispatch zone.
