Teed up for expansion February 1st 2005 Successful trials at its former UK warehouse and distribution complex has led to the installation of new Crown pantograph reach trucks at Ashworth Europe’s newly opened logistics centre in Laindon, Essex.
Three times the size of the company’s previous premesis, the new facility is designed to cope with business expansion as well speed the picking and dispatch of more than 6000 items every day.
The UK subsidiary of golfing apparel company, Ashworth, stocks in excess of 900 seasonal product lines at any one time.
The new Crown RDS5000 pantograph reach trucks – which operators can use either in standing or seated positions – offer the capability of double deep storage and retrieval functions, thereby maximising pallet storage space for future growth.
Warehouse manager, Lee Spurgeon, says although ‘future-proofing’ the warehouse is important, “setting up the new operation using conventional narrow aisle techniques – allowing us to pick stock from the lower levels and replenish from above – makes everything much easier to find and much faster to pack”.
