Transnorm’s system up and running February 1st 2005 Transnorm System has completed a contract to provide JJB Sports’ new Wigan DC with an efficient, integrated materials handling flow system from goods in, to store, order pick and dispatch.
At ground floor level incoming cartons of sports footwear are off-loaded from vehicles on telescopic boom conveyors to be hand palletised for storage; bulk items and heavier exercise equipment arriving already palletised. Following inspection, goods are sorted with bulk items and exercise equipment being located in store at ground level, and footwear to one of three mezzanine floors via three 11 metre high, Transnorm vertical pallet conveyors. These units provide for the delivery and return of pallet loads from any of the three mezzanine floors and for interfloor transfers. They are powerful units and can handle in excess of 80 pallets per hour – the pallets can weigh up to 500Kg.
Transnorm also provided a Tote picking system – a flexible, highly efficient order picking system which allows JJB to respond quickly to the needs of individual outlets, according to the company.
Warehouse Manager Steve Rigby commented, “The support from Transnorm was excellent, including site presence when we needed it. The system is fully operational and flexible enough to give extra capacity if required We are very satisfied with the system and service.” More articles from Transnorm System Limited: |
