Megadoors for waste facilities June 1st 2009 As cutting-edge technology
within the Bangor Waste
Transfer Station will remove
dust and smells to make it
one of the cleanest air
facilities in the UK,
specifying the correct doors
which would be constantly
opening and closing was a
an important process for
Michael Whitley Architects,
who were acting as project
managers for North Down
Borough Council.
Paul Griffith of Michael
Whitley Architects
approached Crawford UK to
advise on the most
appropriate solution for the
project. Keeping dust and
smells out of the plant was a
key criteria. Roller shutter
doors were considered, but
it was felt that these did not
look aesthetically pleasing
and had a perception of
being noisy.
Crawford proposed its
Megadoor as a solution. In
addition to meeting speed
and noise requirements,
these provide large clear
spans and have been used
on similar waste transfer
facilities.
The operating speed was
a particularly important
factor, because the although
the doors need to remain
closed for as much of the
time a possible, it is also
imperative that a queue of
trucks does not build up
going into the plant while
they wait for the doors to
open. More articles from Cardo Entrance Solutions AB: |
