Safe solution to truck damage October 1st 2004 Hörmann’s new SoftEdge Roll Fast door provides a safe solution to avoiding forklift damage. The special SoftEdge with integral anticrash systems is reported to make the company’s new SE high speed doors safer and more cost effective.
Personal protection is increased, damage and downtime said to be for the most part avoided and costly repairs are significantly reduced.
A further benefit of the new system is that its high opening speed and fast closing cycle – possible because of the flexible soft edge – mean that heat loss and draughts in the working environment are noticeably reduced.
The SoftEdge profile means the door is highly flexible in the vertical direction, so accidents causing injury or damage to property rarely occur. In the horizontal direction the multi-chamber, rib-reinforced profile ensure a high degree of stability. Wind pressures of up to 30km/hr pose no problem.
John O’Brien of Hörmann commented: ‘Most experienced operations managers will admit that it is possible to hit the door with a fork truck no matter what safety devices are in force. This has instigated the door industry to develop ‘crash out’ bottom edge systems, some of which are accidents waiting to happen – the heavy edge can swing out when hit and continue to move.’ When the Hörmann SoftEdge is hit the motor stops, preventing the door curtain moving any further and the flexible rubber reduces any potential danger. Damage to the bottom edge is virtually impossible and costly repairs are avoided. With other systems a collision usually means the bottom edge will sustain some degree of damage, often resulting in the need for costly repairs in the future. More articles from Hormann UK Ltd: |
