High fuel bills blown away
October 1st 2005

A heating decentralisation project at ArvinMeritor’s South Wales plant has halted inefficient fuel consumption and ensured the large factory is economical to heat and comfortable for personnel.

The site’s previous system was increasingly inefficient. It was also unable to counteract the cold northerly winds that blow in when loading bay doors are opened.

A new heating system that could also ventilate and provide free cooling in summer was specified.

A total of 14 Nordair RM roof mounted, gasfired combined heating and ventilation units were installed to heat the centre and end sections of the building. At the front, three Nordair DF direct gas-fired units deliver heated air across the doorway to prevent cold air infiltrating through open loading bay doors.

The RM units provide warm air at critical velocity - this produces a slight pressurisation within the building, forcing a mix with room air for even heat distribution.
