Clear benefits for glass unloading October 1st 2005 Glass importer and wholesaler, Concorde Glass, is reported to have halved the time it takes to unload incoming trailers with a ramp supplied by Thorworld Industries. Fitted with a dock leveller, it has made unloading a one-man job and led to improved working conditions.
Around 40 containers carrying up to 22 one tonne cases are unloaded at the company’s Essex warehouse every month. Previously a 40ft long loading ramp was used for unloading. This process required two forklifts, one to drive up the ramp and unload the cases and another to take them inside the warehouse.
To speed up unloading and make warehousing easier, Thorworld supplied a 6m long ramp, which is 2m wide and has a 6t capacity. It consists of three sections with a 2m long counterbalanced ramp and a 2m long hinged dock leveller. It is bolted to the concrete surface inside the warehouse, close to the loading dock.
A 3t forklift can now drive up the ramp into the container to collect two of the one tonne cases before reversing into the warehouse and placing them in stock.
As well as resulting in time and labour savings, using the ramp means the glass and the forklift drivers are no longer subjected to the elements when unloading. More articles from Thorworld Industries: |
