Self-contained structure
June 1st 2008

Loads between the ground and first floors of the central distribution hub managed by DHL for Canon at Coalville, Leicestershire, are now moved by a freestanding Transdek goods lift. The new lift allows Canon to access a mezzanine floor, giving additional storage space for photocopiers and other products. It is able to carry loads of up to 1000kg.

The lift is a self-contained, floor mounted structure. It took less than two days to install as it did not require a pit or any civil engineering work. It is powered by a 240V 20 amp electricity supply. The overall height is 6700mm and the lift is designed to rise 4000mm. The lift platform measures 2400mm wide x 1750mm deep, and its sides are lined with plywood to stop goods from catching in the steel mesh that forms the shaft sides. The platform has a pair of inner gates, which are interlocked with the steel outer gates fitted to the shaft at the two storage levels. Staff can operate the lift from both levels.
