Mobile yardramps for flexibility December 1st 2006 Kitchen appliance manufacturer, Baumatic, has solved the problem of loading and unloading container trucks when there are no loading docks with two mobile yardramps from Thorworld Industries. The 10t capacity ramps are used in Baumatic's 10,000ft2 distribution centre. They are solidly built, with a steel superstructure, using the latest solid beam technique. A serrated open grid deck provides positive traction in all weather conditions. When a container truck arrives, one of the ramps is positioned adjacent to the building's level access doors. A forklift truck drives up the ramp into the back of the container, collects a load and takes it inside the warehouse. Thorworld carried out several modifications to meet Baumatic's specific requirements. Instead of the usual hand operated hydraulic pump, an electric motor was fitted to automatically raise the ramps to the required height. Additional full-height handrails were fitted along both sides of the ramps for increased staff safety. Also, the flat section at the top of the platform was extended to give forklifts a more level run-in to containers and to provide extra space for staff to work in when unloading by hand. The yardramps come with a built-in tow bar, allowing them to be quickly and easily moved around. This is a major benefit to Baumatic, as it needs to move them away from the access doors when deliveries are made by curtain-sided vehicles. More articles from Thorworld Industries: |
