Ashes to A-rating within weeks
April 1st 2007

A food manufacturing plant built by De Boer in just five weeks as a temporary replacement for a business destroyed by fire received the top rating from the European Food Standards Inspection Service.

Remarkably, the Aulds plant, which employs over 200 staff, was given the EFSIS 'A-rating' after just six weeks of the production line rolling again. The EFSIS standard is a pre-requisite for supplying major foodservice distributors and major retailers such as supermarkets – and vital to the continuation of Aulds business.

"This is a remarkable achievement," says Aulds' production director, Donald Burt. "The auditor was impressed by the fabric, facilities and equipment and commended the standard of the facility as a whole. It is a tribute to De Boer and all those involved for their expertise in getting us back in business so swiftly and so effectively." In the aftermath of the fire, the board met and decided that, unless the company could be back in operation with eight weeks, it effectively didn't have a business.

The company approached De Boer and within four weeks of moving onto the site the company was able to create a working replacement for the factory, complete with test kitchen and clean room. Other areas in the 2,250m2 building included office, cold storage, goods in and out facilities, changing rooms, space for blast freezers, a grill room and toilets. De Boer sourced a dozen sub contractors to tackle work such as flooring, cladding, ventilation and water supply.
