Space needn't cost a packet
October 1st 2009 Spaciotempo says two recent projects – at a packaging firm and a crisp manufacturer – show just how versatile temporary buildings can be
Spaciotempo was approached by corrugated packaging
giant Smurfit Kappa UK's northern regional director,
Andy Burrows, to propose a solution for an external
temporary structure. His key requirement was for a sufficiently
large building that would not only provide storage but also
protection of the company's paper based products from the
effects of the weather.
From the initial enquiry in Spaciotempo supplied and
installed a 1600m2 temporary warehouse on site in within two
months, fully assisting the
company with the specification,
drawings and planning
permission for the temporary
structure. A combination of
anodised aluminium frame, high
quality UPVC wall panels and
thermo roof has ensured that the
stock has remained fully protected
from the elements. Roller shutter
doors enables ease of access for
the company's fork lift trucks,
while two personnel doors ensure
that the company is fully compliant with health and safety
requirements for pedestrians.

Some weeks later,
another firm
approached
Spaciotempo. But
this time, the order
was much closer to
home: Uttoxeterbased
crisp
manufacturer, glennans, which is located directly opposite
Spaciotempo on the Dovefields Industrial Estate.
The firm was therefore naturally able to respond quickly to its
requirement for a 10m x 20m aluminium framed structure.
The building, which has been hired for an initial period of two
years, was installed on-site, adjacent to the existing factory -
directly onto a hard standing surface. Two roller shutter doors
were specified for fork lift use with an additional personnel door
located to one side for the safe passage of staff.
Manufactured to BS standards, the building has snow and
wind loadings equivalent to permanent structures and features a
durable pvc coated polyester roof, which allows a full eaves
height of 5m, complementing
ceiling height racking and
