Bales made of feathers stick together April 1st 2006 KK Balers was asked to visit Cherry Valley Farm in Lincolnshire to investigate problems arising from huge volumes of feathers produced within the poultry factory.
An old waste baler was being used in an attempt to reduce volumes, but the bales produced were very loose and created problems with storage and handling on to vehicles for disposal.
Following the visit a trial of one of KK's 500 Mill-Size Balers was proposed. The unit was modified prior to the trial in order to deal with this difficult waste byproduct more efficiently.
The unit was an immediate success and the company now produces up to 75 bales of feathers per week, each bale being an average of 450kg, resulting in an overall saving of £1500 per month. |
