Materials recovery facility upgrade
June 1st 2004

As part of an upgrade to St Albans District Councils materials recovery facility (MRF), Ken Mills Engineering has installed a fully automatic T60 auto baling machine and a UBC automatic can baling machine.

The existing conveyors have been modified with storage bunkers to handle greater throughputs and help ensure a high quality end product.

Once the material is sorted and put into a bulking hopper, it is fed on to an in-floor chain driven conveyor and then diverted via the baling press feed conveyor to the appropriate machine.

The can baler makes bales measuring approximately 380 x 380 x 150mm, weighing between five and ten kilos. The plastic bottles are baled using 4mm steel wire into 280kg units.
