Sweeping at the cutting edge August 1st 2006 With around 24,000t of recyclable glass being processed through its facility in the Port of Southampton, Recresco needs to ensure that its yard is regularly swept. Now the company is using Broadwood's SweepEx modular broom system, which is able to sweep up fragments of glass and paper labels from the half-acre yard in just 10 minutes.
"Previously we used a mechanical shovel together with manual sweeping to clean the yard, which took around two hours a day," said David Fletcher, Manager at Recresco in Southampton. "Now we attach the SweepEx to a forklift truck and the job is done in a fraction of the time."
Broadwood's SweepEx is a totally environmentally friendly concept. The durable broom system has no moving parts, which means maintenance and downtime are practically non-existent. SweepEx also generates minimal dust, thereby protecting the operator, machinery and the environment.
"During the delivery and screening stages, large amounts of glass and paper labels are dropped in the yard," concludes Fletcher.
"Daily brushing is essential to meet health and safety requirements and to ensure that particles are not blown into the surrounding areas." More articles from Broadwood International: |
