Improved availability and extra capacity October 1st 2007 Retail group Migros is
investing in an extension to
the Migros Verteilzentrum
Suhr to gain further
rationalisation potential
and boost storage capacity.
The contract has been
awarded to Witron Logistik
+ Informatik, which has planned and implemented
the entire logistics system
technology for the Suhr
Distribution Centre.
"We provide the bridge
from the producer to all
Migros retail outlets for
non-cooled food articles",
explains MVS manager
Daniel Waltenspühl. "The
extension of the high bay
warehouse by 16 500 pallet
positions means that, in the
future, unnecessary
upstream logistics steps can
be cancelled, costs can be
lowered, and the quality of
the logistics services of our
company can see
continuous improvement."
Simplified process
sequences in the supply
chain, improved goods
availability, and extra
volume capacity for Migros'
own production plants are
further benefits.
With dimensions of 160
by 18m and at 34m high,
the silo D joins three other
high bay silos, increasing
storage capacity to 68 500
pallet locations. The new
silo will have four stacker
cranes. Double load handling
devices on all 16 stacker
cranes ensure the company
can cope with the 3700 to
5600 pallets received per
day, and prepare goods for
automatic picking. Provision
of 56 picking fronts with up
to 4500 articles is taken on
by 28 stacker cranes. Picking
is done on 2 commissioning
levels using 112 manned
'Ergonomic Pick Shuttles'. More articles from Witron Engineering BV: |
