Door design regulations October 1st 2003 Crawford Amber highlights new regulations for industrial door design
Crawford Amber, one of the UKs leading suppliers of building access and loading bay solutions, is drawing attention to major changes to the standards governing the design of industrial doors. The company is alerting buyers and specifiers to a new harmonised European standard that will soon come into effect in the UK.
Greater levels of safety
Commenting on the changes, Dave Lewis, sales and marketing director for Crawford Amber, said: The European Standardisation Committee, CEN, has
been preparing new standards for
industrial doors based on the Construction Products Directive and the Machinery Directive for some time, and their application will become mandatory in the UK. The forthcoming standards demand greater levels of safety, including the elimination of protruding parts and protection against finger pinching and the risk of overhead doors accidentally closing. Although we are still waiting for a definite deadline for the change, it will not be long before all industrial doors purchased in the UK have to meet these new requirements.
Lewis continued: Our own 242 and 542 series of sectional overhead doors are among the few that already offer full compliance, so customers can benefit immediately from the safety improvements demanded by the forthcoming standards.
Crawford Ambers 242 is a fully glazed sectional overhead door for applications requiring optimum daylight, whilst the 542 provides higher standards of insulation. Key features of both include comprehensive pinch protection on the horizontal joints between door sections, whilst the wall tracks are similarly enclosed and there are no protruding parts to pose a risk of injury. A special anti-drop device prevents the door from descending in the event of a spring or cable break.
Attractive aesthetics
In addition to enhanced levels of safety, the 242 and 542 are characterised by attractive aesthetics, with a glossy paint finish complemented by a modern micro-rilled design on the panels. A semi-automatic lock is fitted as standard and the combination of high quality sandwich panels and tight top, bottom side and intermediate seals ensures excellent insulation values.
A high degree of flexibility to meet individual application requirements is provided. These include a range of manual and automatic control systems for opening/closing, and options such as ventilators and integrated passdoors. A wide choice of glazing options enables customers to achieve the ideal balance of daylight, visibility and insulation.
