Safety and design recognised at FLTA awards February 1st 2004 Safety and design took centre stage at this years Fork Lift Truck Association Awards for Excellence, with those factors appearing to have heavily influenced judges
and voters in many of the categories.
Hosted by Association Chairman Richard Baxter, the ceremony saw an unprecedented ten Awards being given out climaxing with a presentation of the very rarely bestowed Lifetime Achievement Award to Development and Design Director Peter Eckersley of Linde.
Reflecting on the evening, Mr Baxter said: The great progress being made in raising industry standards, as reflected in the quality of tonights winners and nominees, is very encouraging. It was also pleasing to see such a diversity of winners. Its natural that leading manufacturers should figure prominently in the voting, but the Awards to Gil Male of the HSE, to the HSE itself and to North Warwickshire and Hinckley College show the broad range of people and organisations whose contributions are seen as essential to the industrys well-being.
Its very interesting to see that safety and design are such high priorities within the industry. As well as the Awards for Gil Male and the HSE, safety was a crucial feature of the Environment Award winning entry from STILL and B&B. The importance of design was recognised primarily in the Design Achievement Award and in Peter Eckersleys Lifetime Achievement, but of course good design was also integral to the equipment winning the Environment, Ergonomics and Innovation categories.
