Door manufacturer and supplier, Kaba Door Systems has launched KOAX, a separated extra low voltage DC motor drive and control system, which, claims the company, will revolutionise the safety and operation of industrial overhead doors and roller shutters.

Passively safe, the system eliminates the need for torsion springs, haulchains and other conventional system components, which can present health and safety hazards during door installation, maintenance and operation.

Suitable for new installations and retrofit, KOAX offers high levels of efficiency combined with favourable total life and design costs in comparison with conventional systems.

Kaba also claims KOAX is safer, quicker and more cost effective to install and maintain.

Other key features include: advanced drive dynamics to control the door’s movement with variable opening, closing and acceleration; operation on DC current using a class III separated extra low voltage control and motor drive system to provide maximum safety of installers and operators; intelligent control system that logs the full operation history and self monitors the door, automatically shutting it down to reduce the risk of accidents and damage; preprogrammed multifunctional control panels to allow other devices such as traffic lights to plug directly into the system; three stage emergency operation system for use during power failures.
