Need help handling health and safety? August 1st 2007 The second in the Health and Safety 07 series of regional exhibitions and conferences,
sponsored by DuPont, will take place at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton on the 10th and 11th
of October. The event combines a high quality conference and seminar programme with an
exhibition supported by the major manufacturers and service providers in the safety industry
The event will interest those that work
in materials handling and logistics as
much of the seminar content is
directly related to the industry. Many of the
exhibitors such as Crown Lift trucks,
Pyroban and Tawi will be available to offer a
broad range of products and services.
One of the major attractions for visitors to
the Northern region event is the free
conference and seminar programme. Papers
are to be delivered by a raft of industry
experts and IOSH members representing the
Manchester and North West Districts
Branch. Members of IOSH should note that
attending the seminar program offers a
fantastic opportunity to accrue Continuing
Professional Development (CPD) credits. A
full programme of seminars can be found
at: www.healthandsafety07.co.uk.
Amongst the educational highlights, and
repeated on both the first and second day of
the event, is the seminar on Manual
Handling delivered by Malcolm Tumbridge,
representing IOSH. The perennial problems
associated with Manual Handling continue
to be a major cause of absence in the
workplace. Malcolm Tumbridge, speaking
from experience, will describe a process
used to identify manual handling problems
and assessments that identify not just the
risk but practical solutions to implementing
a safe system of work.
Universal areas of concern to industry
such as noise management are also
discussed on day one by experts such as
Peter Wilson and Mike Denton of Aearo,
while readers of H&SS might be particularly
interested in David Thomas', seminar on
'Working at Height'.
Highlights on day two, Thursday 11th
October, include a seminar from Paul
Difford of Principal People who will be
looking at 'Industrial Accident
Investigation'. Paul's seminar covers the
fact that unsafe acts continue to
predominate as the significant factors in
many accidents; however, employers are
often unfamiliar with their proper analysis,
classification and remediation and default
to the remedy of an associated regulatory
breach. Analysing human error is essential
and this session considers the classification
of unsafe acts and the remedial
implementation issues that can prevent
organisations from benefiting from their
identification as cause. Topics addressed
on day two of the event include the latest
information surrounding fire regulations,
asbestos, industrial accident investigation
and also advice on how to measure risk
protection, maximise safety and increase
productivity.
Alongside the educational content, the
list of companies supporting the exhibition
is impressive, demonstrating the emphasis
which the major players in the safety
industry are placing on this event. As well as
the event partners: Aearo, WL Gore, Ansell
and Principal People there are a host of wellknown
PPE providers, materials handling
equipment suppliers and specialist
consultancies exhibiting.
The experienced staff at the show will be
happy to discuss individual visitor
applications and help provide the practical
assistance which only face-to-face
interaction can bring. For a full list of
exhibitors visit:

This event represents a great use of time
for visitors from virtually any industry and at
any level, not just health and safety
professionals. The venue has been chosen
for ease of access and boasts ample free
parking while the educational content
addresses the most topical and pressing
safety issues. The exhibition rivals that of
any national show and the event is geared
to provide a worthwhile experience for the
time-pressured visitor.
Registering for the event or a seminar is
free. However, visitors are advised to do so
in advance to guarantee a place.
