Nissan takes MasterTugs
August 1st 2005

Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK has taken delivery of two MasterTugs from MasterMover.

The tugs are used to move trucks carrying Press Die sets of up to 30 tonnes in weight, traversing across the Press shop on rails to allow the die sets to be hoisted by any of the 17 overhead cranes which run longitudinally down the shop.

“We had two units installed and are in the process of installing a 3rd machine,” says NMUK’s technical officer, Peter Brady.

“This will mean all of NMUK’s die trucks in the Press ship will have this new concept drive system. One of the main benefits gained from the use of these units is the flexibility they bring. It is easily detached from the truck via the removal of one pin and any of the other drives can be used in its place. In the past this was not possible and the truck was motionless until repairs were completed.”
