Scissor lift tables take the strain October 1st 2006 SigmaKalon decorative coatings in West Yorkshire is using Birch Engineering scissor lift tables on its filling lines, labelling department and warehouse facilities to help promote safe handling conditions and combat repetitive strain injuries and back problems amongst operators.
Each production line usually employs two lift tables mounted into shallow pits. Empty pallets are loaded with products onto the tables at the end of the conveyor line and lowered to be removed by forklift trucks. This simple process eradicates any need for the operator to twist or bend whilst loading product onto the pallet. When closed the tables lie virtually flat to the ground.
Engineering support manager, Chris Fletcher remarked: "Scissor lift tables were the most cost-effective remedy. We looked at vacuum lifts as an alternative but these proved too expensive and cumbersome for the job." Most of the workstations at SigmaKalon involve the need to lift products from one level to another and the eradication of strain and sprain injuries ensures not only less discomfort to operators but avoids potentially expensive loss of output to the company.
As the scissor lift tables are so reliable, Sigmakalon is buying three more. More articles from Birch Engineering (Cuffley) Lt: |
