Screen fencing safety system April 1st 2007 Warehouse staff at a distribution centre in Northampton are now protected by a new safety fencing system designed and installed by Troax. The Safe-Fix machine guarding panels, constructed from steel tube for rigidity and strength, segregate hazardous automated areas of the warehouse where cranes are in operation, providing physical security. Only authorised personnel can gain access to the restricted zone using a series of 10 interlocked doors located at intervals along the fencing. Push-pads fitted to the inside of the doors allow fast exit in an emergency. Troax, specialists in industrial safety, carried out the project in conjunction with Swisslog. Swisslog designed and implemented the automated materials handling system and WMS for the new lowbay warehouse. In addition, Troax's Anti- Collapse pallet rack safety screens have also been installed in the warehouse, along a series of six runs of racking, each of which measures 10m in height and around 40m in length. The all-welded mesh safety screens prevent accidents when pallets are being handled and catch items if they should become dislodged from pallets, stopping them falling and injuring personnel working below.
