No compromise August 1st 2004 The modular design of Stills new MX-X series means the trucks can be precisely configured to suit each individual application
With its new MX-X series, Still aims to provide a tailor made VNA truck to exactly match the particular needs of each application. According to the company, in the past compromises often had to be made. For example, a 14m lift height would require a 1.5t truck due to the counterweight needed. Now, thanks to the modular design of the the MX-X concessions no longer have to be made. In fact, there are reckoned to be a staggering eight billion different hardware configurations available for the MX-X!
Capacities range from 500kg to 1500kg scalable in steps of 100kg for turret-head operation. There are five mast modules, which provide lift heights up to 15m in 500mm steps, four chassis lengths, three types of driver cabin, plus a host of other options.
Five mast modules
Of the five mast modules, three are telescopic and two are full-free-lift triplex versions. As the mast height is scalable in steps of 500mm, it is possible to specify a mast to match every pallet size and load weight. Including the auxiliary lift, the MX-X can be supplied with an overall lift height of approximately 15m.
The box-type mast profiles are very rigid and provide high stability and resistance to twisting. Additionally, mast bracings are fitted as standard on mast heights of 4.9m and above. These lateral and crosswise box-sections have been developed to enhance the appearance of the unit as well as provide additional strength and stability.
The masts are wider than before, enabling a more spacious cab with extra shoulder and knee space for the driver. Electric damping provides jerk-free transition from free lift to main lift during lifting and lowering and provides quieter and more comfortable working conditions.
The cabs are available in Standard, Universal and Comfort versions. The Standard cab is designed for normal order picking and stacking operations. The Universal version, for use with radio data transfer equipment, allows the installation of the turret head and the Still equipment required for the Material Management System (MMS). The Comfort option is suitable for pure stacking operations and enables the addition of all attachments and MMS.
Four chassis of different lengths are available for batteries with capacities from 420 to 840A, allowing selection of optimum work time between battery charges or changes for each application. Battery changing can be carried out using a forklift truck or roller track.
As well as providing almost every conceivable hardware option, with the MX-X Still provides a plethora of software choices to get optimum performance from the truck for each user.
Performance packages have been developed for lifting and travelling. These packages can be combined best suit each individual warehouse, i.e. short or long aisles, high or low racking.
Optispeed
Additionally, elements of the Stills Optispeed concept are available. This provides optimum speed, acceleration and speed control for the specific application. Load calculators now allow faster travel speed if there is less load on the truck. In the past, performance parameters had to be set on the assumption that the truck was fully loaded.
There is also a planning tool that calculates the optimum travel and function speeds on the basis of warehouse data such as length and height, travel distance, lift performance and pallet throughput.
Rail guidance
As you would expect, the MX-X range is compatible with all current mechanical rail-guidance systems. The all-new IZF wire guidance ensures fast, safe, and accurate entry into the aisle and is not sensitive to external influences such as floor conditions. This means the travel speed can always be set to the maximum for the application. The short aisle entry distance of 1.5m enables transition areas to be kept to a minimum for best possible use of space.
The IZF control module features dual-processor architecture (consisting of main and monitoring processors) and has a CAN bus interface. Different frequencies can be parameterised so that the MX-X can be operated on every standard system.
If all the choice seems a bit mind boggling, do not worry. The experts at Still will help you to gather all the relevant warehouse data and then come up with an optimum configuration of the truck to suit you, resulting in performance, safety and economy.
