Safe handling of long loads December 1st 2004 A specially designed seven-metre spreader beam on a multi-directional Sidetracker is ensuring safe handling of exceptionally long loads at Newburgh Engineering.
Newburgh specialises in precision machining work and currently has a long-term contract to produce 18m structural components for rail carriages. The Sidetracker is used to carry packs of extrusions between an external storage area and the factory.
The beam, which has forks at each end, operates in tandem with the truck’s standard forks to provide four-point support for the loads – an important feature on the sloping site in the Peak National Park where Newburgh is based.
For Newburgh, Sidetracker designed a semi-permanent structure that is bolted to the fork carriage, but the company also supplies removable versions for times when trucks are used to carry a mixture of short and long loads. More articles from Sidetracker Engineering Ltd: |
