Costs cut by Loadhog lids
December 1st 2005

Returnable packaging innovator, Loadhog, is helping to reduce waste and cut costs at the NHS Logistics Authority. A ten-week trial of Loadhog lids at one of NHS Logistics' six distribution centres has produced such environmental, cost and efficiency savings that its more widespread use is now being investigated.

The trial at the Alfreton distribution centre has had a significant impact, as Chris Holmes, operations development and support manager, explained: "We wash around 2000 totes a day which equates to about 60 pallet loads going in and out of our washing facility.

"The shrink wrap needs to be collected and recycled or disposed of, which is a time consuming and costly process."

The fully recyclable Loadhog lid is specially designed to secure a level load to any standard wooden or plastic pallet without the use of environmentally unfriendly plastic film or strapping.

"During the trial we saved around 1600m of shrink wrap a day, which is significant for an organisation which takes its environmental responsibilities very seriously," said Holmes.
