Sandpiper has IT covered
June 1st 2005

Intermec handheld computers and portable thermal printers from Sandpiper are enabling national logistics company, Lane Group, to make the most of its in-house delivery software, dubbed the Mobile Management System (MMS).

Using the inbuilt scanners, 2.5 million items are scanned at point of delivery.

The printers and handhelds interface with each other to create a single piece of portable kit which enables the driver to print a Proof Of Delivery document listing all the goods that have been delivered, any discrepancies and an image of the recipient’s signature captured from the screen of the handheld. An electronic copy is also saved for reference and archive at HQ.

Product and customer data is downloaded to the terminals in the mornings, and from this point the delivery crew have complete route and customer info.

“Our drivers now wouldn’t be without them,” says Lane Group’s John Bartlett.
