Cleaner Ribena from Arca February 1st 2005 Pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline, the manufacturer of Ribena, has invested in 6,000 of Arca’s Big Box pallet containers for the shipment of blackcurrants.
With blackcurrant one of the hardest stains to remove, ‘washability’ of the boxes was a major requirement, so the boxes were designed with a smooth-based lid for easier cleaning and reduced dirt transferred from the picking fields to the central processing plant. Unlike boxes made in a single moulding, the smooth lids are replaceable, resulting in a longer operational life.
GSK sourcing director, Micheal Dunshire, says the boxes have eliminated the need for liners and made cleaning the boxes an easier task. “What’s more,” he says, “the boxes have saved 14 tonnes of plastic waste per year and transport costs have been significantly reduced.
