Sticky fingers stealing baskets June 1st 2008 PHS Teacrate, a supplier of
returnable transit packaging
(RTP), is helping bread
basket supplier Bakers Basco
in its fight to reduce the
number of baskets and other
equipment being used
illegally. A staggering
number of baskets are 'lost'
every week, costing the
baking industry millions. In
conjunction with the Police,
Trading Standards, Customs
and Environmental Health,
Basco's recovery officers are
carrying out raids on
businesses. Bakers, caterers,
poultry farms, market stalls
and even erotic DVD
distributors are targeted.
Offenders face prosecution,
heavy fines and seizure of
the stolen equipment,
presenting the business
owner with the problem of
quickly obtaining
replacements to allow
trading to continue.
"Replacing the recovered
baskets is a real headache
for the people we visit," says
Basco's recovery manager
Gavin McSweeny. "But we're
not trying to close their
businesses down, we just
want our property back."
Basco was keen to offer a
life-line to offenders so they
recommend PHS Teacrate's
24 hour nation-wide
replacement service. "We
can deliver any number of
crates anywhere in the
country within 24 hours.
Our ability to respond to
companies that have been
visited by the BASCO
recovery team is critical to
ensure the offending
business has continuity of
supply," says Bill Smith,
Teacrate's sales manager.
"We offer the flexibility of
rental or purchase to suit
the client's budgets which
means that the financial
outlay is kept to a minimum,
and that's a big help,
especially after a hefty fine."
Basco hopes the service will
encourage businesses to
change their ways. More articles from PHS Group plc: |
