Timber remains popular under pressure December 1st 2008 The Timber Packaging and
Palleting Confederation,
(TIMCON) has delivered the
message that in the face of
rising industry pressures and
costs, timber remains the
most popular and
sustainable material in the
world for the storage,
transport and movement of
goods.
Ongoing competition for
wood supplies has led to
record-high timber prices.
The biomass industry is also
affecting timber pallet and
packaging manufacturers
with its demands on wood
supplies. Escalating energy;
transport and raw material
costs such as steel, is
causing worldwide nail
prices to rapidly increase.
TIMCON's message is that
in terms of health, safety,
economic and
environmental benefits,
wood is still the clear leader.
TIMCON has recently
spoken out on the biomass
issue, urging the industry
and government to consider
the affects of offering
subsidies to bio-fuel without
first reviewing in depth the
raw material resources
available to meet existing
demand. Pallets and
packaging are critical items
in the materials handling
chain, and clients cannot
afford an interruption in
supplies in order to keep
their products moving. More articles from Timcon: |
