Consistent quality of pallet load wrap
June 1st 2006

When logistics, warehousing and transport company, Rhys Davies Freight Logistics, (RDFL) secured a number of new contracts at its Haydock depot, it was presented with several issues to overcome such as load stability and load aesthetics. Historically RDFL hand-wrapped pallets, but these new contracts meant a better finish and more consistent quality of pallet load wrap was needed. The solution was to purchase a new stretch wrap system but very stringent criteria had to be met.

The machine had to be able to cope with a variety of different products presented in various ways, from bags and boxes of spices to mixed configurations of pallets.

The system had to be simple to use, reduce film weight and provide improved storage capabilities from a security and health and safety perspective.

RDFL approached two companies to tender and Aetna UK was awarded the contract to supply a ROTOPLAT 506 power prestretch rotary turntable system. David Lunt, operations manager for Rhys Davies explained why he and Tony Smith chose Aetna. "The success of Aetna was in no small part down to the professional approach of their representative, Colin Ramskill, with his attention to detail and understanding of our current and future operation."

Although outside the original brief, RDFL was also delighted to find that the ROTOPLAT 506 pre-stretch system could cope with other products such as drums. It has also improved pallet stability due to the better quality of wrapping.

Added Dave Lunt: "The Aetna Rotoplat 506 has given us an aesthetically better looking pallet, whilst reducing our film usage by 60% as we are now stretching our film 250%.

The quality of the machine has proved to be as good as we expected. Product presentation has been significantly enhanced and we are now able to demonstrate to our final customer that we are consistently able to meet their needs."
