Many snappy returns with camera ID
December 1st 2007

Curry's needed a new sortation system for its reverse logistics warehouse in Nottinghamshire.

Contractor PJ Gavin & Sons enlisted Vitronic to help with parcel identification.

Vitronic supplied a VICAMssi topside camera mounted on a frame to read the top side of items travelling along a powered conveyor. It captures images of parcel labels – even if they are dirty, damaged or handwritten – which the system then processes.

The sorter coder uses the results, which are 99.9 per cent successful, to direct the products accordingly. The system doubles Curry's initially required throughput.
