Spirit Data Capture's MM3
September 1st 2009

Next is Spirit Data Capture's MM3, which the company bills as an 'ultra rugged lightweight mobile computer'.

The spec: Option of Windows Mobile 6.1 or 5.0; VGA hi -res LCD; Multi-mode radio (3G+, 802.11 a/b/g, Bluetooth), GPS. It also has a replacement keypad and scanner (either in 1D or 2D long range).

Memory: 128MB RAM and ROM (with up to another 1GB ROM optional) Toughness: IP65 rated, it has a drop test rating of 1.8m to concrete.

What they say: "It's a fully featured rugged mobile computer with a colour camera, multiple data capture options and two keyboard options that can be replaced by the user," says Spirit MD, Ebbie Khadem "A strong drop test rating means it can take the knocks and an optional pistol grip makes it handier for warehousing operations." For those looking to minimise capital expenditure, there's a leasing option available.

Spirit's other contribution to the roundup is the versatile gotive SQ31, an ergonic communicator with barcode reader. Billed as 'rugged with style' with 'added emotional value' (whatever that means), the firm says it fits any hand, and any environment – 'from dusty warehouse to chic boutique'.
