Reduce trailer downtime April 1st 2005 i2 Mobile Solutions has developed a trailer management system which, it says, enables warehouse and logistics companies to ensure optimum efficiency for themselves and their supermarket customers.
Economical fleet management is paramount.
Idle transport is not earning money – but once the movement of trailers is monitored and controlled, downtime can be reduced – removing the need for ‘spothiring’ from third parties.
“Trailers are fitted with a roof mounted RFID tag. Tag readers attached to the entrance of each depot automatically record and report the entry and exit times of the trailers, and store the data until the reader is polled, via modem, by a central server,” explains i2 MD, Ian Quint (pictured). The system produces a number of key reports as to excess downtime areas, allowing both parties to see where trailers could be better employed. More articles from I2 Mobile Solutions: |
