Picking accuracy improved five-fold

Voice-directed distribution system expert, Vocollect, is reported to have delivered a five-fold improvement in picking accuracy and a 20% increase in productivity for United Co-operatives (UCL) with a return on investment in just 13 weeks. Installation at the Stoke distribution centre was a partnership between OMI Europe and Talkman reseller, VoiteQ.

Since the system has been in use, errors have decreased from 10 per 1000 to 2 per 1000, effectively eliminating 2400 errors per week. Higher accuracy has also eradicated the need for labels, saving 25,000 annually and creating a tidier working environment.

Average pick rate has increased from 120 per hour to 145 per hour, saving 430 man hours per week.

Thanks to the accuracy of the system, invoicing can now be as picked and claims for missing products have fallen by 80%.
